Torch Media opens advertising on Sydney’s new light rail

Outdoor provider Torch Media has launched advertising on Sydney’s new CBD and South East light rail. The light rail is due to open for business in December in Sydney, and advertising packages will commence from January 2020. Packages will be available on the 60 new trams which service the CBD and East. The trams run every four minutes in peak, and will carry up to 450 passengers. The route of the tram will give advertisers access to busy parts of Sydney’s CBD, including Circular Quay, George Street, Surry Hills, Moore Park and Randwick Racecourse. ADVERTISEMENT Managing director of Torch Media Kirsty Dollisson said the tram opens up all new areas of Sydney which were previously hard to access. “The expanded Sydney Light Rail network creates amazing opportunities for advertisers to access parts of the City and audiences that were previously hard to reach. The CBD and South East Light Rail runs right through the heart of Sydney’s CBD connecting major transport hubs like Circular Quay and Central facilitating a multimodal commute,” said Dollisson. “In the next year, the Sydney Light Rail network will become an increasingly important part of how brands target the CBD and surrounds.” The route is projected to deliver 34 million passengers annually. The launch of the light rail has been a long an arduous process for Sydney, dragging out over four years and inciting a multi-million dollar class action lawsuit from business-owners who were affected by the build of the line. More than 110 businesses have taken part in the claim, seeking around $400m in compensation, due to prolonged closures and construction noise issues. Most recently, the opening was brought forward from March 2020 to December by NSW premiere Gladys Berejiklian, although skeptics are not convinced.
